Facilities of the Mobile Station
Year 2002 / The Radio Car No.2
[The last renewal of this page: December 28, 2002]
My first Heavy-duty-mobile-radiostation had everything, and that was a concept of its design.
This time, for the one as NO.2, was designed under a concept that I could enjoy DX-QSOs without
much difference from standard base stations, and I could set up at once with just switching ON
from the inside of the car.
For DX QSO while Parking : HF Bands SSB/CW/RTTY/SSTV (14-28MHz)
Antenna: Triband Vertical antenna for a base station (Minimulti HT3 14/21/28MHz Max.3KW)
Tranceiver: ICOM IC-721
Microphone: Astatics Hand X'tal microphone
Antenna Tuner, Preamplifire, Digital Notch filter, TNC, etc.
For DX QSO while Driving : HF Bands SSB (All Bands)
Antenna: Homebrew 3.5m(12foot) long whip antenna (The top hight is 4m) + Automatic antenna tuner(AH-3)
Tranceiver: ICOM IC-721
Microphone: Astatics Hand X'tal microphone
For Local QSO : UHF Bands FM (144/430/1200MHz)
Antenna: Triband whip antenna (Diamond 144/435/1200MHz)
Tranceiver: KENWOOD TM-942
View of its operation parking. An azimuth control rotor tilts up a vertical antenna with a simple
toutch to the switch. Even in a heavy shower, very easy to start anywhere.
A feeding point of an vertical antenna is about 3.5mh, and the top of the element reaches to 6.5mh.
As this vertical antenna works a toploaded anttena on 14MHz and the element is thick enough, it
works with very high efficency in all three bands, as well as a full-size antenna.
As it is set up high enough above the ground, the result is unbilievable.
People surprizes at a difference of the signal strength when I switch the antenna between the
vertical and a whip anttena at the back of the car.
Its maximum power 3KW gives me a kind of a sence of security! Hi Hi
Inseide view. Seats are turened to the backward so that I could have more space in the back cabin.
Gasburner, tablewares are always available to enjoy coffe and snacks.
Stuffs being set both side are for astronomical observations in montains, which is another
purpose of this car.
This box chair has many astronomical observational apparatus inside of it.
Many accesaries are in line. Rotor controllers are for Horizontal and azimuth controls.
An azimuth control rotor controller tilts up the vertical antenna.
It is just a fun enjyoing a ragchew looking out a beautiful scenery without worrying about
interferences to neighbours!
Antenna is visible through an opened sun-roof.
Shut down the station, tilting down the vertical antenna.
Horizontal rotor does not effect to the vertical antenna, but its structure ensures
a strong mouting to the roof for an azimuth rotor, and also, it will accept horizontal
antenna to be mounted when it is necessary in future.
A supporter of the element. With putting down the element on this, the vertical anttena
stays very stable while driving on a highway.
A condition for driving.
Tranceivers being set in a front cabin for a use while driving. (HF/UHF Bands)
An automatic antenna tuner provides low bands operations while we have less capabilities for
DX-QSO during in motion.
